I was responsible for and managed multiple large, high-level projects involving the design, development, rollout, maintenance, and ongoing operations of a series of large OLAP data warehouses and data marts. CRM Data Warehouse Data Architect, System Architect, and Technical Manager

Defined, developed, and managed a series of CRM data warehouses and data marts for several large clients of Experian.  As Chief Architect, I was involved directly with gathering business requirements, requirement documentation, solution definition and development, data architecture using ER and dimensional modeling (ERwin) for the staging, warehouse and associated data marts, system requirements documentation, hardware architecture and configuration.  In addition, I developed the detailed development documentation (including ETL mappings) for the developers.  As the Technical Manager, I was responsible for interviewing for, hiring, and managing the Development and QA team of 10.  I also evaluated and approved the final reporting and campaign management tools and assisted in defining the final tool configurations and implementation.  Data warehouses were developed using Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server 2000 databases, loaded using Informatica and Ascential DataStage ETL tools, supported reports generated by Business Objects and Crystal Reports, and campaigns created and managed by UNICA Affinium Campaign and Siebel.

Working as the Technical Team Lead, I designed and implemented several large-scale Global and Regional data warehouses and associated data marts for the Nissan SAP Financial system.  I was involved with designing the data models (ERwin), requirements gathering, business analysis, and creation of the functional and technical specs for all aspects of the warehouses and marts.  This included final report definitions (Crystal Reports 8.5), data transformation and loading (Informatica PowerCenter/PowerMart), ETL mappings and analytics  (Informatica), databases (DB2 UDB, Oracle, SQL Server 2000), web delivery of management reports (ASP, .NET, ActiveX, Java, J2EE, JavaScript, IIS, Websphere) utilizing Hyperion Essbase and Hyperion Reports.  I also headed a team to evaluate reporting tool selection between Crystal Reports, Informatica, Hyperion, and MicroStrategy.  Sources of data included SAP extract files and user-created flat files.

Developed and installed a complete SQL Server 2000 system to capture and upload data from UPS WorldShip™ and FedEx shipping clients to an AS/400.  Project involved configuring a Windows 2000 server and installing SQL Server 2000; defining, developing, documenting and deploying a relational database to capture the data; configuring the shipping client machines to upload the shipping data automatically; creating stored procedures and triggers to scrub and prepare the data in the SQL Server database; and creating DTS packages and script to upload the data to the AS/400.  In addition, scripts and DTS packages were written to download customer data from the AS/400 to the SQL database and then to the Shipping Client machines.  Custom executables to perform and manage the upload and download were written using Visual Basic 6.0.

APOLLO – Completely managed a full lifecycle project to replace an antiquated piece-meal back office system.   This project involved building an application development environment and team; acquiring hardware and software for the project; managing project planning, budgets, schedules, and timelines; supervising a development, analysis, training, and testing team of 15 staff; coordinating with several outside vendors to incorporate 3rd party systems, making presentations to the CEO, CIO, and other executives.  Project involved several phases, including a client/server system (Visual Studio/SQL Server/Crystal Reports) for internal use, and a data-driven Internet/Intranet application (HTML, DHTML, ASP, and JavaScript using the same SQL Server 2000 database) for outside sales offices (New York, Chicago, Utah) to enter, review and manage their data; and a data warehouse / data mart for DSS reporting (SQL Server OLAP, Crystal Reports 7.0).  The intranet site was also used to provide corporate executive-level reporting via web based reporting from the Data Mart.

Fully designed, developed, documented, and implemented an interface between two Foreign Exchange systems operating on a VAX system and on an NT server. The project included setting up a scheduled job to create and FTP transfer files from the VAX system to the NT server, setting up a scheduled job on the NT server to execute several processes, and creating several Visual Basic executables to process the interface file.  The executables validated the interface file, validated transactions with existing deals within a SQL Server database, created new deals within a 3rd party application, retrieved newly created deal numbers, and created a final interface report using OLAP Cube that included the disposition of all processed transactions.  The system was successfully completed and implemented within cost and schedule.

Facets - Mission-critical Visual Basic and Sybase Client/Server project allowing a wide range of personnel to input, update, review, and process patient information.  Created several Unix scripts, Sybase stored procedures, AWK scripts to support maintenance and reporting requirements.

  

Fully developed, documented, and implemented Visual Basic 5.0/ Sybase 11 project to calculate the Sales & Marketing commission bonuses.  Features included retrieving and processing sales and membership data from a DEC minicomputer, allow for retroactivity of data, track all changes, compute weighted baselines, allow for admin maintenance of markets, benefit codes, rates, commission bonus formulas, etc. Crystal Reports was used to for final reports.

Formula 4 Accounting Project - Client/Server project allowing finance and sales departments to review and report sales, business growth funds, and related accounting information.  Front end reporting performed in Microsoft Access linked (attached) to Oracle tables on the back end that were replicated from DB2 tables.  Developed and implemented a number of complex end-user Access reports.

Order Processing and Technician Dispatch System - Mission-critical Client/Server project allowing personnel to input, update, review, and process orders for telephone service, and related products and features; provisions included customer information and telephone usage tracking, billing, collections, telephone activations, change of service and disconnection.  System included FTP connections, dial-up capability, and EDI.  I developed and implemented Sybase and SQL Server relational database structure, Access reports, and Word and Excel macros to support production.  Designed, developed, and implemented Visual Basic 5.0, Sybase and SQL Server Transact/SQL coded stored procedures.  Assisted in conversion of back-end from SQL Server to Sybase and subsequent transition of the entire system from Los Angeles to Hartford, CT.

Light Oil Retail & Commercial Pricing System - Client/Server project to allow personnel to administer and review intra-day pricing and costs for all light oil products sold by the entire company via retail and commercial outlets.  System includes provisions for downloading external pricing feeds.  Front end written in Visual Basic 3.0 with an Oracle 7 database back end running on a UNIX Sun Sparc / Sequent machine.  Assisted in developing, updating, implementing and revising database structure to support development and production.  Also designed, developed, and implemented Visual Basic and Oracle PL/SQL code, including creating and installing executables for development, testing and production systems.

Over the course of 4 years, several major systems were developed and implemented.  Most were mainframe applications created on an IBM 4381 or an AMDAHL running VM HPO or ESA and used combinations of REXX and NOMAD (4th GL).  The PC-based projects ran on 386, 486 and Pentium machines connected via a Netware LAN of 400+ clients running DOS and Windows and were written with Visual Basic 3.0 and used Oracle.

I worked on a large number of MIS projects.  I developed a system to analyze and track wiring harnesses and diagram data for multiple aircraft configurations using NOMAD, ISPF, COBOL, and FORTRAN on IBM 3090 mainframe and developed interfaces with DB2 and IMS legacy databases.  As a project manager for an HP3000 system, I developed and made modifications to maintain, upgrade, and successfully reduce overall operating costs of the system.  In addition, I was a project leader in successful migration of the system from a HP3000 minicomputer to an IBM 3090 mainframe using DB2 and ISPF.
